The mission of the World Directory of Medical Schools is to compile a list of all medical schools in the world, containing accurate, up-to-date and comprehensive information about each school.

The World Directory of Medical Schools was developed through a partnership between the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and FAIMER®, a division of Intealth.

The World Directory is a complete compilation of the information previously contained in the IMED and Avicenna directories.

The World Directory defines a “medical school” as an institution that provides a full or complete program of study leading to a basic medical qualification; that is, a qualification that enables the holder to obtain a license to practice as a physician or general practitioner.

The Directory contains general information about medical schools, their contact information, known affiliations, as well as curricula and admissions data. If a school has more than one program or pathway leading to a medical qualification, details of each program will be listed under the “Program Details” tab of the school’s entry in the World Directory. Some of the directory's sponsors have provided notes on specific medical schools, and these can be found under the "Sponsor Notes" tab in the school's entry.
