The "Foreign Languages" department is part of Philology Faculty and was established on the basis of the former "Foreign Philology" and "The Russian Language and Literature" departments. Since April 1, 2025, it has been operating as a department training specialists in English, Russian, Chinese, and Korean languages.
The activities of the "Foreign Languages" department are guided by the university’s main motto, "Advanced Knowledge and Eastern Education." The department is focused on preparing students to become specialists who possess advanced scientific knowledge, think independently, and are well-informed about rapidly advancing technological developments. The department’s professors and lecturers aim not only to provide students with contemporary education, but also to foster awareness of national identity, a deep understanding of the Eastern education system and its values, and the effective use of the university’s advanced scientific and technical resources.
There are a total of 81 professors and lecturers in the department. Among them 6 professors, 17 associate professors, 2 PhDs - senior lecturers, 56 senior lecturers and teachers.
Purpose of the department's activities. The primary goal of the department is to train competitive specialists who meet the demands of the modern labor market, possess excellent proficiency in English, Russian, Chinese, and Korean languages, and have high pedagogical potential. Additionally, the department aims to develop students into well-qualified professionals in this field.
To achieve these goals, the department is firmly committed to establishing cooperation agreements with foreign higher education institutions, implementing regular international exchange programs with their professors, lecturers, and students, and organizing seminars, training sessions, and academic courses in collaboration with experts in the field.
At present, the department has established co-operation with several universities, including Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany; Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany; Southern Federal University in Rostov-on-Don, Russian Federation; Korkyt Ata University in Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan; Kazakhstan State University named after Mukhtar Avezov in Shymkent city, Kazakhstan; Beijing Language and Culture University and Dalian University in the People's Republic of China; Namseoul University in South Korea; Sultan Idris University in Malaysia; as well as several universities in Uzbekistan.
Main Tasks of the Department's Activities:
– carrying out educational, methodological, scientific, and scholarly mentorship activities, as well as spiritual and educational work;
– developing students’ reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills;
– forming the ability to use English, Russian, Chinese, and Korean languages through new terminology in both general and specialized fields;
– developing students’ logical and critical thinking skills;
– student skill development in understanding professional documents in English, Russian, Chinese, and Korean, and applying acquired knowledge in practice;
– fostering the ability to analyze international scientific achievements from a linguistic perspective;
– preparing students for proficiency exams such as “TRKI,” “CEFR,” “TOPIC,” and “HSK,” which assess their ability to speak clearly, accurately, fluently, and confidently in English, Russian, Chinese, and Korean for future professional use.
